Whats up Wednesday: The Importance of Community
What’s Up Wednesday: The Power of Community
What’s up, good people? It’s me, Terrance, back again for another What’s Up Wednesday! Today, I want to dive into something near and dear to my heart: community.
Community plays such a significant role in our lives. Think back to the days when neighborhoods operated like extended families. When kids were outside playing, neighbors looked out for them, held them accountable, and ensured they stayed safe. If something went down, your neighbor didn’t hesitate to give you a heads-up or lend a hand. That’s the kind of support and accountability that can make all the difference.
Fast forward to today, and while the dynamics may have changed, the need for community hasn’t gone anywhere. Here at Warren Fitness, we pride ourselves on creating a safe and supportive environment—a community where you can strip away the outside world and focus on what matters most: you.
Why You Come First
I often tell people, “Take care of yourself first.” That may sound selfish at first, but it’s not. When you prioritize your mental, physical, and emotional well-being, you’re in a better position to care for your spouse, kids, and loved ones. Neglecting yourself creates a ripple effect that can take a toll on every area of your life.
That’s why when you walk through the doors of Warren Fitness, it’s about you. Whether you’re here to smash fitness goals, find a mental reset, or just move your body, this is your space to focus.
The Formula for Health & Wellness
We all have unique fitness journeys, but there’s a basic formula I recommend:
1. Cardio – Keep your heart strong.
2. Strength – Build those muscles.
3. Stretching & Recovery – Stay flexible and prevent injury.
While Warren Fitness can help you with cardio and strength, I also encourage you to explore other communities for activities like yoga or meditation if that fits your needs. I’ve built relationships with some amazing groups, and I’d be happy to connect you with them.
The Role of Accountability
One of the greatest gifts of a strong community is accountability. Whether it’s in your neighborhood or the gym, having people who care about your progress and well-being can be a game-changer. At Warren Fitness, we aim to be that for you—a place where we cheer you on, help you meet your goals, and provide a judgment-free zone to grow.
So, if you’re ready to join our Warren Fitness community or just want to learn more, hit us up! Let’s make this year about building stronger connections and stronger bodies.
Until next time, take care of yourself and remember: You come first.
Stay strong,
Terrance
What’s up, good people? It’s me, Terrance, and this week we’re diving into an essential topic: kids’ fitness! Around here, we take kids’ fitness seriously because it’s not just about exercise; it’s about creating positive lifelong habits and experiences for children.
One of the most important things we focus on is ensuring that a child’s introduction to fitness is a positive one. Fitness should never feel like a punishment or something to dread. Yes, it can be challenging, especially for kids who haven’t done much structured movement beyond running, jumping, and playing. Teaching proper techniques—like how to do a lunge, push-up, or squat—is where we start. This lays the foundation for building strength, balance, and confidence. But most importantly, we aim to make it fun.
We don’t want kids leaving a session saying, “I hate working out. I never want to do this again.” Instead, we want them to feel encouraged and excited to explore fitness throughout their lives. At some point, physical activity will become essential for their well-being, so why not start it off on the right foot?
Where Should You Start with Your Child’s Fitness?
The most common question we get is: “Where should I start with my child?” The answer depends on what your child enjoys. Fitness isn’t one-size-fits-all. Think about it: some people thrive on strength training, others love cardio like running or cycling, and some prefer activities like yoga, Pilates, or team sports. Your child is no different. Listen to them.
Yes, it’s great to encourage your child to play sports or try new activities to keep them active (and yes, to get them out of the house!). But that doesn’t mean they have to follow a traditional path. Let them experiment and discover what they truly enjoy. When kids find activities they love, they’re more likely to stick with them, turning those habits into a lifetime of health and fitness.
What We Offer at Warranty Fitness
At Warranty Fitness, we pride ourselves on offering a variety of options to meet every child’s needs. From kids’ fitness classes to personal training sessions, we focus on helping children build a strong foundation in fitness. For us, kids’ personal training isn’t about turning them into professional athletes. Instead, it’s about teaching them the fundamentals—proper technique, safe movement, and the joy of staying active.
We want to make sure your child leaves here feeling accomplished, confident, and excited to continue their fitness journey. If we’re not the right fit for your child’s interests, we’re happy to connect you with other programs and activities, whether it’s swimming, martial arts like jiu-jitsu or tae kwon do, or sports leagues like I9 Sports or BSMA. The goal is to match your child with something they love, so they’ll build healthy habits that last a lifetime.
Let’s Get Moving!
If you’re curious about getting your child started in fitness, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ve got some exciting programs coming up, and we’re here to answer any questions you have. Remember, the most important thing is to find what makes your child happy and active—and if that means exploring different activities, we’ve got your back.
Until next time, keep moving, stay positive, and let’s raise a generation of strong, healthy, and confident kids.
– Terrance
It’s me, Terrance, back again. This week, I want to dive into a topic that so many people overthink or flat-out misconstrue—nutrition. Here’s the truth: you do need all the key macronutrients—carbs, protein, and fats—but understanding how much and what types comes down to you and your lifestyle.
Let me break this down.
What Does YOUR Body Need?
It’s easy to give generic advice, but nutrition is personal. Your intake should reflect your activity level, the type of training you’re doing, and your goals.
• If you’re doing strength-based training (lifting heavy, building muscle), protein is non-negotiable. You need to make sure you’re eating enough to rebuild and fuel those muscles, but you also need carbs to power your workouts.
• If you’re more into cardio and endurance work (long runs, cycling, HIIT), then carbs become even more important to keep your energy up. Carbs = fuel.
But at the end of the day, the key is balance. Calories in, calories out. If you’re burning a lot, you need to eat accordingly. If you’re under-fueling, your energy is going to show it—trust me.
My Personal Nutrition Journey: Pescatarian Life
Now, I know everyone’s body is different. For me, I’ve landed on being a pescatarian, which means I get my protein from seafood. Look, I’m not going to lie—I love meat. Give me a 40-ounce steak, and I’m happy. But my body doesn’t love it back. I’ve realized that seafood works best for me, and I’ve learned to adapt my nutrition accordingly.
Here’s what that looks like for me:
• Protein Sources: Tuna, salmon, snapper, trout, mahi-mahi—these are my go-to’s. I eat fish multiple times a day when I can.
• Supplements: I use protein shakes and drinks to fill the gaps when I can’t get fish in. (Fish at work isn’t always the move—my trainers will tell you the same thing.)
• Carbs: I pay close attention to my carb intake. If I’m dragging at the gym, chances are I haven’t had enough. The moment I get those carbs in, it’s like flipping a switch—energy levels are back up.
Everyone’s Different—Find What Works for You
I can’t stress this enough: nutrition isn’t one-size-fits-all. You might see your sibling eating one way and thriving, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you. Genetics play a role, sure, but your body is unique. You have to experiment, listen to your body, and figure out what fuels your energy, performance, and overall health.
Need Help? I Got You
If you’re struggling to figure out your nutrition—whether it’s meal plans, protein sources, or how to balance carbs and fats—reach out. I have plenty of resources, both in-house and around town, and I’d love to connect you with the right people to get you on track.
Hit me up with any questions. Take care of your body, and it’ll take care of you.
Until next time,
Terrance
What’s Up Wednesday: Why I Started My Gym
Welcome to this week’s “What’s Up Wednesday,” where I share a bit about the journey behind starting my gym, Warren-T Fitness. Many people assume I had a grand vision from the start, but the truth is, it all began with the inspiration and support of the people around me.
How It All Started
Before opening my own gym, I spent nine years training out of different locations, including spaces in Briargrove and Montrose. During this time, I connected with incredible clients who trusted me with their fitness journeys. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I was fortunate to experience growth rather than setbacks. Families of my clients started training with me, and together, we focused on staying healthy during a challenging time.
This growth, along with 14 years of personal training experience, made it clear—it was time to open my own gym. The decision was also deeply personal. April 1 marked a full-circle moment: I had left the YMCA in 2014 to start my independent training business, nine years after joining the YMCA in 2005. What began as a side hustle to make extra money in college while raising my daughter evolved into a full-fledged career and now, a thriving gym.
The Vision Behind Warren-T Fitness
Warren-T Fitness isn’t your typical gym. It’s a culmination of everything I’ve learned over the years, inspired by my time at the YMCA, where the focus was always on community and belonging. Our mission is to create a space where everyone feels welcome and supported, no matter where they are in their fitness journey.
Here’s what we offer:
• Personal Training: Tailored support to meet your goals.
• Small Group Classes: Perfect for those who thrive in a community setting.
• In-House Services: From massage therapy to dietitian consultations and meal prep partnerships, we’ve got you covered.
At Warren-T Fitness, it’s not about flashy photos or showing off. It’s about genuine encouragement, meeting people where they are, and helping them progress at their own pace. We want everyone to feel like they’re part of the family.
Why It Matters
Opening this gym has been a labor of love, and it’s a testament to the amazing people who believed in me along the way. Warren-T Fitness exists because of them, and our goal is to pay it forward by creating a space where everyone can thrive.
If you’re looking for a gym that feels like home, where your journey matters, and where community comes first, we’re here for you. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out.
Let’s grow together!
